Leadership for the Teen Spirit Conference on Saturday, February 4th

Emotion Leadership Enterprises is holding a great leadership conference for teens this Saturday. The conference is called Leadership for the Teen Spirit and will be held on Saturday February 4th, 2017 from 9am - 1pm.

It’s a half-day exploration of the 7 areas of Leadership that will broaden your perspective, determine where you need to focus in your life today and develop a plan to ignite your passion and move toward success. The cost of the event is $25, but scholarships available if needed.

ACC Health Science Open House- February 25, 2017

Austin Community College (ACC) will be hosting a Health Science Open House on Saturday, February 25, 2017 from 10:00am – 2:00pm at ACC Eastview Campus.  This will be a great opportunity to tour the ACC health sciences facilities, attend program demonstrations, and meet with faculty and staff.  The event is especially great for juniors and seniors who are considering a health science field upon high school graduation and unsure of the many different programs.

ACC offers 14 different health science programs with certificate and associate of applied science options.  Please refer to this flyer for more information.  Although registration is not required, it’s encouraged so they can ensure there is sufficient staff and space. Click here to register.

ACC Dual Credit Information Sessions

ACC Dual Credit Information Sessions for interested students will be held during all 3 lunches on Wednesday and Thursday, January 25th and 26th in the Lecture Hall.  Please bring your lunch as it will last almost the entire time.  Information regarding "college readiness" testing and the enrollment steps a well as what classes will be offered for RRISD restricted classes both in the summer and fall will be shared. 

If you are a returning Dual Credit student you need to attend, however you will need to be aware of the timeline for getting your Dual Credit form and on campus advising.  Forms with this timeline can be picked up at the session or from Ms. Kirk's office in the main office.  

A Parent Information session will be held at the Parent Night on Wednesday, January 25th.  There will be break out sessions for parents to hear about ACC Dual Credit.

Texas A&M-Singing Cadets Concert

Interested in learning more about Texas A&M? Representatives from TAMU will be available at 6pm on January 14th at the Riverbend Centre, 4214 North Capital of Texas Highway, Austin, TX to talk with high school students/parents and at 7pm enjoy the taste of "Aggieland" by attending the Singing Cadets' Concert. This event is for graduating seniors who have been accepted to A&M and would like to ask questions about Admission, Financial Aid and talk with other departments as well as juniors wanting more information about A&M.

Texas A&M-Chevron Engineering Academy

Students interested in the Texas A&M-Chevron Engineering Academy at Austin Community College must first secure admission to ACC. After being admitted to ACC, you must be pre-qualified, and then you will fill out an application to Texas A&M University. A&M applications are being accepted from January 1 through the end of April, and acceptance is on a first-come/first-served basis. Classes begin in Fall 2017. 

The Engineering Academy is for first-time, full-time students and continuing students that have achieved a high school diploma or equivalent and are pre-calculus or calculus ready as determined by ACC. New students must take the SAT or ACT in order to be accepted to A&M.

Pre-qualification is being conducted by the Science, Engineering, and Math department, and that department will be reviewing student records and contacting students who are eligible to apply to Texas A&M. Students may obtain more information at or by contacting David Fonken or his administrative assistant Susan Dudley if they have questions.

Pilot Internship Program for High School Graduates

Samsung Austin Semiconductor has announced a pilot internship program for high school graduates. The program will give graduates an opportunity to learn the semiconductor industry and gain valuable hands-on experience.

At the end of the 10-week internship, the graduates will have enough knowledge and experience to determine if they are prepared to launch a career with Samsung as a technician. This includes an opportunity to pursue a 2 year degree at AC in four specific degree fields.

School Day SAT for Juniors - March 1, 2017

The school day SAT will be administered to all juniors on March 1, 2017.

SAT School Day Registration
  • Students will register for the test through their English classes on  January 18 and 19.  After January 19, students will register with Mr. Snyder or Mr. Pugh in the main office.
  • Students will be able to send their scores to four colleges for free.
  • Prior to January 18, students will need to have a College Board login in order to register for the test.
  • Please have your College Board log in information available next week.
  • Many students already have a College Board account. Students with an existing account should not create a second account. Duplicate accounts can cause problems with reporting scores.
  • For this administration only, student will not be required to upload a photo but will need a photo ID on the day of testing. This can be a driver’s license or school ID.
